Music Reviews in 140 characters?

I heard this story on NPR this morning. “Twitter Music Reviews: Criticism As Haiku.” Music reviews in 140 characters? I thought this was an interesting use for Twitter.

Medical Podcasts from Johns Hopkins

My Featured Website for today is one that I found when going through my book review cards that we get monthly from Choice magazine. This card was actually from April. I saved it to look at later.

As there has been interest in podcasts around the library recently, I took another look at Johns Hopkins Medicine Podcasts, Audio and Multimedia site.

Each one of the weekly Johns Hopkins Medicine News Roundup podcasts covers several different subjects, and they feature Elizabeth Tracey, director of electronic media for Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Rick Lange M.D., professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins and vice chairman of medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  A recent podcast’s topics ranged from computer-based smoking cessation programs, swine flu, and diabetes risk prediction.  Also,  Hopkins PodBlog covers what each week’s news roundup podcast is about.

Other podcasts cover cancer, gastroenterology,  and neurology, and may be found here.

Johns Hopkins also offers more information about podcasts and how to subscribe.

Mississippi Library 2.0 Summit

While I have not been blogging here, I have been playing with Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and assorted other Web 2.0 social networking applications. Last week, June 20, I attended the Mississippi Library 2.0 Summit at Mississippi State University. It was nice to see people in person when I usually communicate with them via e-mail or Facebook. The opening session speaker was Sarah Houghton-Jan, who blogs as the Librarian in Black. She was in black that day, and spoke on (.ppt) Sustainable Web 2.0 Services for Small and Underfunded Libraries. I attended sessions on wikis, Flickr and how to present your identity in social networks. I presented a poster, “Living and Thriving! In a Library 2.0 World,” done with JSU Director of Distance Education Sherri Restauri. I also tried to tell everyone I could that JSU Library had an opening for public services head.

Web 2.0 Life

Ophelia Nikitin

My Second Life avatar, Ophelia Nikitin, looks as if she is not a morning person, hanging out in the Purl Tearoom drinking tea. Come to think of it, this is about like my first life, too. How about that t-shirt?
