The Merck Manual, which is available in print at the library, as well as online through a link in the online catalog, is now available as an application  for the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you need the Merck Manual on the go, you can now take it with you.

Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery and Medical Tests

We have access to a new e-book: The Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery and Medical Tests.  This resource was named one of the Best Reference Sources for 2009 by Library Journal.

Description from the Gale website:

Encyclopedia of Evolution Electronic Access

We now have electronic access to the Encyclopedia of Evolution from Oxford University Press. A link is available in the library’s online catalog. This work is also available via the “Databases by Title” list through the Oxford Reference Online Premium titles. From there, click on the Biological Sciences link under Subject Reference.

New Books

We are getting new books in on 9th floor, but I wanted to highlight a new set of reference works that arrived recently. We have a new edition of Grzimek’s Animal Life Encyclopedia, REF QL 7 .G7813 2003. This comprehensive set covers the animal world from invertebrates and insects through birds, reptiles and mammals.

"The Art of Critiquing Research"

I just came across an article that might be of use for classes which have an assignment to review scholarly journal articles.Kuyper, Barbara J. Bringing up scientists in the art of critiquing research.” BioScience 41.n4 (April 1991): 248(3).

Bioscience is available in print, call number QH1.A277, as well as in several databases,including Expanded Academic ASAP from Thomson Gale.
