What is This?

The “this” referred to in the title is a QR code, short for Quick Response, a 2-dimensional barcode that can be used for a variety of purposes, including e-mail, Web links, and address book information. The codes  are appearing in magazine ads, stores and libraries.

I have posted some QR codes around 9th floor, in the call number areas that correspond to the ones on the Biology 103 Lab handout, available on the Web at http://www.jsu.edu/library/pdfs/handouts/BY103.pdf. If you scan the code with your smartphone’s camera using QR code reading software, it will display a link to the  URL for the handout.

Find QR code readers in the application store for your phone (iTunes Store, Android Market, Blackberry App World, etc.) by searching for QR. You may also find QR codes for various apps.

Looks Like Fall

The temperature might not have shown it lately, but it is fall. The trees have looked glorious lately, including this golden one outside the library.

‘Health-at-every-size’ Approach Is Effective: Health-centered Weight Control Method Shows Promise

I thought that this article mentioned on  ScienceDaily was interesting and I thought that it was worth sharing.

ScienceDaily (2009-11-05) — Most weight-control strategies emphasize energy-restricted diets and increased physical activity — and most are not effective over the long term. In a study of a “weight-acceptance” intervention, researchers found that there could be long-term beneficial effects on certain eating behaviors using a weight-acceptance intervention approach.
